GE DXA Bone Density Scan

A Bone Densitometry Study is used to measure bone calcium levels. It identifies the extent of any osteoporosis.

Is there any special preparation needed before the test? No special preparation is required before having a Bone Densitometry Study. You can eat and drink before the procedure.

How is the test performed? No medication or injections are used. You will be asked to lie down on your back with your knees bent. Very small amounts of different energy x-rays are then passed through the body and absorbed by the tissues. A computer will then calculate how much of the tissues is calcium. The computer then generates a picture of the amount of calcium in the area of the bones.
